In conjunction with the annual International Exhibition each year, CPSA presents a fun-filled convention providing colored pencil artists the opportunity to network and become acquainted with other artists, attend workshops led by experienced and accomplished artists, win door prizes at the Art Gala, and enjoy a banquet to see in person the announcement and presentation of exhibition awards.
The convention is usually held at the end of July. Details are in the prospectus for the exhibition and convention each year.
If you'll be attending the convention, please register even if you aren't planning to attend any paid events, such as the workshops or the banquet. All registered attendees are provided with a name badge and welcome bag filled with products donated by CPSA corporate patrons and sponsors and others.
CPSA Convention Events
Tuesday/Wednesday: Before the convention gets into full swing at Wednesday evening's Meet & Greet, the national governing board and district chapter delegates hold two days of CPSA business meetings.
Thursday/Friday: Two nationally-known colored pencil artists present one-day workshops with lower rates for CPSA members.
Tuesday through Thursday: Attendees have the opportunity to bid on "Small Works of Great Magnitude," original colored pencil art donated by signature and award-winning artists. This is an annual fund-raising auction, a tradition that began in 1999. Bidding begins Tuesday in the hospitality suite and the auction takes place during the Thursday evening Art Gala.
Thursday Evening: This relaxed, lively, and fun evening includes the projection of every entry submitted to the exhibition onto large screens, numerous door and raffle prizes, and the final bidding for the silent auction.
Friday Evening: The highlight of the convention is the banquet where CPSA announces and presents exhibition awards and honors members who have achieved signature status and merit awards.
Saturday: The convention closes with an afternoon reception at the gallery to celebrate the exhibited art and award winners. This event is open to the public. After the reception, a dessert party for convention-goers may be held back at the hotel.
Saturday: In some years, CPSA may schedule other special events such as field trips to areas of interest, seminars about art-related subjects by prominent guest speakers, trade shows with product manufacturers, or short sessions about marketing and other art-related topics.
