About the Juror - Joann Moser

Joann Moser was Senior Curator of Graphic Arts at the Smithsonian American Art Museum from 1986-2016. Before coming to Washington, she was the Senior Curator of Collections and Acting Director of the University of Iowa Museum of Art in Iowa City.

Dr. Moser received her Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1976, where she also completed her master’s degree. In 1975 she received a Kress Fellowship from the National Gallery of Art. She holds a B.A. in art history from Smith College.

Her most recent publication is What’s It All Mean: William T. Wiley in Retrospect. Singular Impressions: e Monotype in America, was published in 1997 and served as the catalogue for an exhibition by the same title. She has also written on the famous printmaking workshop Atelier 17, the paintings of Jean Metzinger, the drawings of Joseph Stella, and collaborative printmaking in the United States before 1960. Some recent publications are Graphic Masters, a catalogue of drawings from the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s collection and an interview with Hung Liu for the American Art journal.

Dr. Moser has been an advisor to the Washington Print Club, and serves on the advisory boards of Pyramid Atlantic, the Hand Print Workshop International, and the George Mason University School of Art. She has served as a juror for numerous national and regional exhibitions.

CPSA Silent Auction 2017


Our popular silent auction, "Small Works of Great Magnitude," will be held during our 2017 convention in Rockville, Maryland. Bids are accepted during the convention week starting Tuesday, July 25, and culminate with final bids at our Art Gala on the evening of Thursday, July 27. The bidder (or a representative of the bidder) must be present to win. These are originals donated by each artist to support CPSA activities. This is your chance to own a small original work by an accomplished CPSA artist.

Purchase is by cash, check, or credit card and must be paid the evening of the auction.

Explore This! is a juried annual online mixed media exhibition hosted by the Colored Pencil Society of America. While entries must be predominantly colored pencil, they must also include other media or one or more of the following:

  • Other media added to the colored pencil (e.g., ink, watercolor, acrylics)
  • Collage
  • Artist-prepared surface
  • 100% colored pencil applied to a three-dimensional (3-D) surface

Awards
Awards include a $2,000 cash award for Best of Show and EXPY Award, with lesser amounts and product awards given to other winners.

Juror: Mar Hollingsworth
Mar Hollingsworth is a bilingual (English and Spanish) art professional with over twenty years of experience as a conservator, researcher, curator, program manager, artist, and educator. She earned her MA in Art History and Museum Studies from the University of Southern California and conducted doctoral studies in Museum Studies at the School of Fine Arts, University Complutense of Madrid, Spain, where she received a BA in Fine Arts and Art Conservation. After graduating from USC, she worked in various capacities at major art institutions in Los Angeles, including LACMA, MOCA, the UCLA Hammer Museum, and the Getty Research Institute.

In 1998 Ms. Hollingsworth began her tenure at the California African American Museum, where she has created a wide portfolio of accomplishments as educator and visual arts curator. At CAAM she has curated and co-curated over thirty exhibitions and project managed many others, as well as their accompanying educational programs. Ms. Hollingsworth has organized retrospectives of prominent figures such as John T. Riddle, Jr., Milton Bowens, Artis Lane, Dewey Crumpler, John T. Scott, and Mark Steven Greenfield.

Ms. Hollingsworth is a member of the Art Table, Women Painters West, and the California Art League.
